I have yet to finish my series on Sister Vacation 2014 and it feels like the right time to reminisce about vacation when any days I attempt to take off work are denied by my current supervisor. While it may seem like I jet off to foreign lands most of the time and spend little to no time at the office, this could not be further from reality. Since January, I have taken 7 days off work (2 of which were early in January, 1 for Sister Day in May and 4 for Sister Vacation in June), which leaves me with 18 whole days to take sometime between September and December. This shouldn’t be too difficult as I just booked my flights for my annual pilgrimage to AMERICA in November for over two weeks of wedding festivities and family fun.
Anyways, back to Switzerland: peaceful land of cheese and chocolate.
Day 2 of our four-day jaunt around the mountains was spent going from Geneva to Bern to Interlaken. We got up
early before noon and headed to the train station, stopping for train picnic supplies along the way and the most expensive Starbucks in the whole world (oh Starbucks in Switzerland, fool me once…).
It took about 2.5 hours to get from Geneva to Interlaken and as we got closer to Interlaken, the scenery became increasingly amazing.
When we arrived in Interlaken, we made our way to Balmer’s Heberge which came highly recommended by my high school bestie (thanks, Shoosh!!). The location was pretty good, the bathrooms were shared (gasp!) and the unexpected bunk beds were…. bunk-beddy. But the room was clean and we were there to do outdoorsy things so whatevs.
We decided to get a hike in as the weather forecast for our two days in Interlaken was looking a bit grim. We headed out to the trail for Harder Kulm. It was a 4.1km (2.5 miles) hike which took just under 3 hours. Here’s the proof:
We conquered the mountain, weathered the weather, made it back to the hostel, cozied up with the rest of our picnic supplies (cheese and chocolate, obviously) and watched half a season of Girls. Another perfect day on Sister Vacation 2014.
Coming up in Part 3 of Cheese and Chocolate – we take to the skies! Who knew we could fly after all the cheese and chocolate?!
