After the wonderful, wonderful wedding and several glorious days in Tasmania, two of my lovely friends and I headed off on a short little Kiwi adventure to the North Island of New Zealand for a few days.
Our first full day was a tour to Rotorua via the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.
We weren’t allowed to take any pictures inside the caves, but it was incredibly beautiful and we learned some nasty stuff about glow worms (they basically eat each other… and are all related….).
We made our way to Rotorua – which you can literally smell for miles away. Our hotel was right on Lake Rotorua and holy hell the sulfur! We had a few hours to kill before our evening at the Maori Village, so we headed next door to the Polynesian Spa to get some relaxation in the super hot natural springs.
After our spa break, we got ready for our night at the Maori Village. While a super touristy thing to do, it was really interesting to learn about the Maori culture, have an amazing meal and experience some of the fascinating entertainment…. side note… hellooooooo warriors!
We had an excellent meal and a very exciting bus ride home (how many times can a giant bus go around a roundabout…. like 8). The next day we were up at the crack of dawn for another full day of touring around the North Island.
We made our way back to Auckland for one final day in the big city. We managed to have a walk around town, check out the waterfront, do a bit of shopping (manuka honey!) and catch up with one of our nearest and dearest from grad school.
Absolutely loved New Zealand and will definitely have to go back!
